Glucose or carbohydrate metabolism disorders affect around 6-10% of the population. This means that almost one in ten of us is not able to convert the energy we derive from our daily food intake in a healthy manner. Short-term effects of an insufficient conversion of carbohydrates are chronic fatigue, lack of energy and motivation as well as a general feeling of weakness. The B-complex vitamins as well as chromium, zinc, and manganese help metabolize carbohydrates and sugars and support the processing of these calorie carriers in the cellular power plants. Cinnamon bark extract as well as the trace element chromium promote the absorption of blood glucose in the cells, ensuring a proper energy supply from food calories. Astaxanthin is a highly potent antioxidant derived from special types of algae. Together with the vitamins D3 and E, it protects the biomembranes of the cells in our body.

Please note:

Even though diabetes is a disorder relating to glucose and carbohydrate utilization, diabetics should pay special attention to a moderate intake of proteins, as an excess of dietary protein makes the connective tissue “stick” together. Consequently, it is more difficult for sugar molecules and also micronutrients that are important for the metabolism to enter the body cells from the bloodstream. Diabetics should thus pay attention to a moderate intake of protein (approx. 1 g of protein per kg of body weight) and a base-rich diet. People with elevated blood lipids should make sure to consume a sufficient amount of omega-3 fatty acids (e.g. cold-pressed linseed oil or fish oils) on a daily basis.
